Who I am

I am an architect turned into an interior designer and a not-so-successful (based on the number of plants I have to relocate each year), but passionate gardener. I’m a homeowner on a tight budget who believes that a fresh coat of paint, beautiful fabric, good lighting, and a piece of furniture with a story can transform any room into a space you want to stay in, rather than go out. Furthermore, I’m also a mother of five (the most rewarding "project" by far) who has moved between Europe and the US more than a dozen times.

I hold a Master's degree in Architecture and Urban studies and a Bachelor's degree in Management. After completing my studies and briefly working as an architect on high-end residential projects and restaurant designs in the Boston area, I joined a fantastic interior design firm that sparked my interest in the field. Twenty years ago, I began renovating and flipping houses. Although I paused my professional practice for two decades to focus on my family, I continued creating welcoming homes for us and our friends. This allowed me the freedom to experiment, make mistakes, and learn what works and what doesn’t, using my family as my personal experimental lab (sorry, kids…). Now, after 20 years, I’m starting to share my "unprofessional" professional experience with you.

Currently, I divide my time between France (Burgundy), Germany (Stuttgart & Munich area), Slovakia, and Cape Cod (Massachusetts). My latest and longest project—the renovation of our remote French country house with my children over the past few years—tested my patience but gave me a unique perspective on the concept of “perfectly imperfect,” which contrasts with the more perfectionist approach often found in the US. I used to strive for a perfect entryway, among other things, but during a recent school break, I discovered the simple beauty and joy of tripping over a pile of my kids' shoes. (Yes, my Eastern/German-European upbringing still has me taking shoes off before entering a house.) Great interior design isn’t about striving for perfection, but about creating harmony and beauty with well-used objects that come together to form an effortlessly chic and comfortable space. Yes, we’ll need to work on the pile of shoes in my house at some point…
